At approximately 1657 hrs, April 22, the biohazard alarm sensor in Lab K-7 detected a release of experimental virus T-02271. It was shift change in the subterranean facility known as the Hive, a classified research station funded and operated by the Umbrella Corporation deep beneath the streets of Raccoon City. It was speculated that a careless lab employee dropped a tray of T-02271 samples when replacing them in cold storage. Whatever the cause, the highly unstable T-02271 variant vaporized at room temperature and was rapidly drawn into the air circulation system. The contaminated laboratory level was immediately shutdown by the Hive’s AI, but the virus was sweeping into other levels of the facility. One level after another shut down amidst alarm klaxons and the screams of panicked employees.
Research work at The Hive was varied and highly compartmentalized. Only a handful of scientists and security personnel were familiar with the effects of the T-Virus. Within an hour of release, the effects were horrifically apparent to all. In the resulting chaos, several explosions ripped through sections of The Hive and severely damaged the power grid and communications infrastructure. All contact was lost with The Hive at 1931hrs last night. Your team… is going in.
