Six months ago…
At approximately 1657 hrs, April 22, 2011 the biohazard alarm sensor in Lab K-7 detected a release of experimental virus T-02271. Whatever the cause, the highly unstable T-02271 variant vaporized at room temperature and was rapidly drawn into the air circulation system. The contaminated laboratory level was immediately shutdown by the Hive’s AI, but the virus was sweeping into other levels of the facility. One level after another shut down amidst alarm klaxons and the screams of panicked employees.
Teams of Raccoon City’s elite STARS unit descended into the Hive on the morning of April 23, to rescue workers trapped in the bowels of the facility. Heavily armed troops from Umbrella Corps Biological Containment Service went in as well to recover critical company research property. Only a handful returned alive to the surface.
The Hive was sealed behind massive blast doors and put under permanent watch by the Umbrella Corporation. As the months passed, and due to the efforts of the Umbrella Corporation public affairs team, the incident was all but forgotten to the general public as an unfortunate industrial accident.
